History of Facebook
Facebook is an online social media and social networking service. Facebook is actually a website that allows users, who sign-up for free profiles, to connect with friends, work colleagues, or people they don't know, online. Now Facebook also has its own app. Facebook was founded in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg with fellow Harvard College students and roommates Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes. Mark Zuckerberg is also considered the richest person in the world with a net worth of 177 million dollars.
Mark Zuckerberg was born on 14 may 1984 in the white plain, New York, and was raised in Dobbs ferry. He has three sisters. He was the son of psychiatrist Karen and dentist Edward Zuckerberg. He was born into a well-educated family. He showed an interest in computers at an early age. When he was 12 years old he made software for his father's dental clinic. Zuckerberg created a messaging program named Zucknet that he implemented as an inter-office communication system. In his early age he also learns to design computer games.
After seeing his interest and success in the computer his parents got him a computer teacher and he also learn his education of computer in high school. When Zuckerberg was 15 years old he created an early version of the music software Pandora which he called synapse while he was still in high school. After many companies wanted to buy that software. Later he goes to Harvard University. Before his graduating many companies offer him jobs.
Later he became famous at Harvard University as a software guy. In the first year, he made he built a software program that was a Course match. Later he made a website name face mash. For face mash, he hacks the pictures of university girls' faces and on the website, he asks to tell who is more beautiful. Both these software program became popular but the university shut down the latter program after it was deemed to be inappropriate. Due to the face mash website, the personal website of Harvard University was crashed.
When he was in university there are three students who give him the idea to make a website with the name Harvard connection. They tell him to make the website on which Harvard students can talk to each other. Later mark Zuckerberg think about Facebook and start working on his own idea. Later mark Zuckerberg stop talking to these students and then he quietly worked on his own idea. Later mark Zuckerberg drop out of university without completing his studies. Later he only focuses on Facebook.
Those three students who gave him the idea were not happy and they think that mark steal their idea and worked on it. Later mark Zuckerberg with his four friends move to California and they start living in a small house and then mark Zuckerberg continues to work on Facebook. On February 4, 2004, Mark Zuckerberg launched Facebook from his Harvard dormitory room. An earlier inspiration for Facebook come from Phillips Exeter Academy, the prep school from which Zuckerberg graduated in 2002. At the end of 2004 Facebook reaches 1 million users. Like others, the path of success for mark Zuckerberg is also not easy because that three students still thought that mark steals their idea.
In 2005 one investment company give the mark Zuckerberg 12.7 million dollars for Facebook. Then mark Zuckerberg use this money and expand Facebook. Later in December 2005, he became successful in bringing 6 million people to Facebook. When the Facebook got his more user other company are interested in it and also contact to mark because they want to promote their companies with ads but Mark Zuckerberg didn’t agree with this because first, he wants Facebook to become widespread.
Then mark did his full focus on Facebook but in 2006 two of those students who give the idea of Harvard connection bring this matter to court and claim that this idea was suggested by them and now they said that they want money. Mark Zuckerberg tries to explain that both the ideas are different because the Harvard connection was only for students of university so that they can talk to each other and the idea of Facebook was for all people not only for students.
Later Mark Zuckerberg gave them almost 65 million dollars and then this case is ended there. This case lasted till 2011 when that three students said Mark Zuckerberg give them less amount of money and Facebook totally worth is more than this but these types of things can’t stop Facebook from growing. In a 2011 interview with PBS after the death of Steve Jobs, Zuckerberg said that Jobs had advised him on how to create a management team at Facebook that was “focused on building as high quality and good things as you are”.
“People think innovation is just having a good idea but a lot of it is just moving quickly and trying a lot of things.” ~ Mark Zuckerberg
