When she was in high school she wanted to become a figure skater. She also wakes up at 4:30 for his train. When she was 14 years old she started her small business. She started selling handmade scarves at the shops and markets throughout Perth.

She founded a fusion book in 2007 with Cliff Obrecht. Fusion books is a platform that allows students to design yearbooks. Fusion book is very simple and it allow their user to choose any template from the library of design templates. But after this, she wants to develop software that was most easy for users to use.
At this time she had competition with large companies and she also have a lack of resources. She concluded that ‘it did not seem the logical thing to do’. Obrecht the husband of Melanie Perkins meanwhile would call colleges and universities in order to gain new clients for the company.

How Canva start?

After five years of developing fusion books grow into the largest company in Australia. Later fusion books also expand to France and New Zealand. Later she decided to make the company name canva. They do not have enough funds for it. Melanie Perkins and Obrecht both live in Perth and Melanie Perkins also said that there his idea was rejected by 100 local investors in Perth.

Struggles:

Despite all the difficulties, she didn’t lose hope because failures come before success. Life give them an opportunity when in 2011 prominent investor Bill Tai visited Perth to judge a start-up competition. Melanie Perkins pitched a Thai host for canva but receive no funding. After this, a Thai investor invites them for a gathering. Some of these also include Silicon Valley where Perkins and Obrecht met Lars Rasmussen. He was the co-founder of Google maps. He was interested in the idea but he tell the founder to hold everything until they find a tech team. Later Lars Rasmussen introduced Perkins and Obrecht to Cameron Adams. He was an ex-Google employee with relevant technical expertise.
At first, Cameron Adams was not really interested in this idea because he had his own business which was fluent.io. Cameron was in Silicon Valley and later he receive the email from Melanie Perkins she asked him again that did he wanted to join the company or not. After this email from Melanie Perkins, he agreed to join the company. Later Melanie Perkins found the funding which she was finding for several past years.

When canva become successful?

This company was officially launched in 2013. Later Melanie Perkins became the CEO of the company, Obrecht became COO and Adams became the CPO. When the company was launched in less than one-year company gained 600,000 users. This was also because the canva was most easy to use and free. Later canva was also expanded from outside of Australia also. After the office of canva also open in Beijing and Manila. Later they receive more funding and due to this they introduced new features in canva app some of the features include the learning collaboration tool "Canva for Education."
Canva has a limited presence in the United States but the Melanie Perkins was still a popular figure in Silicon Valley. Later due to their hard work canva has a workforce that consists of almost 41% of women which was higher than the industry average. For canva Melanie Perkins also said, “We want Canva to be the place you can go to by default, and so we’ve made it free to use.” His company grows rapidly and besides this, she also gets positive feedback from users.

The CEO of canva Melanie Perkins is married to her longtime boyfriend Cliff Obrecht. They both work hard and made the fusion book and canva together. Perkins loves traveling as well as kite-surfing which she grew great interest in after being invited to regular kite-surfing gatherings by Bill Tai.
