SpaceX Success Story, Journey, History

SpaceX

SpaceX is an American aerospace company. This company designs and launches spacecraft this is also a provider of space transportation. This company has headquartered in Hawthorne, California. This company was founded by Elon musk in 2002. The main goal of this company is to enable humans to live on other planets.

“You want to wake up in the morning and think the future is going to be great - and that’s what being a spacefaring civilization is all about. It’s about believing in the future and thinking that the future will be better than the past. And I can’t think of anything more exciting than going out there and being among the stars.” ~ Elon musk

In early 2002 Elon musk started finding partners and staff for his new company. For this purpose, he met rocket engineer Tom Mueller. Elon musk invited him to become his business partner. This company has first headquartered in a warehouse in El Segundo, California. From 2005 the company had 160 employees.

Starlink:

SpaceX working on the production of the satellite name Starlink. The main purpose of this is to provide a satellite internet. Now it provides internet access to 32 countries. The aim of this is to provide internet globally. As of 2022 1,915 satellites are now orbiting around the earth. Elon Musk hopes to send 42,000 Starlink that can really change the earth.

Falcon 1:

The first rocket developed by SpaceX was the falcon 1. Falcon 1 is developed from 2006 to 2009 and its total cost is US$90 million. This is the first privately developed rocket that contains liquid fuel and goes into orbit around earth. Falcon 1 was developed by private funding and it was made to put to put small satellites into low earth orbit. Falcon 1 contains a merlin engine which is the family of the engine made by SpaceX to use on falcon heavy objects. Falcon one contains merlin 1C and generates the thrust of 78,000 lbs. before the first successful flight of Falcon 1 it also failed three times.

First launch of SpaceX:

After spending time on its production first test flight of Falcon 1 was made on 23 March 2006 on Kwajalein Atoll in the Pacific Ocean but it didn’t go well the rocket blasted after 25 seconds of launching and this attempt was failed. The reason for this is corrosion between the nut and fuel line which causes the fuel line to leak and the rocket blast. Later on, SpaceX implemented various changes to designs and software to prevent this type of mistake. After two more attempts and in the fourth attempt it is successful in reaching earth orbit.

Canceled projects:

After Falcon 1 successfully reaches orbit SpaceX planned to make advanced variants of this which were falcon e and falcon 5 but were never made.

Falcon 9:

Falcon 9 is a medium-lift launch vehicle. It has also been launched many times. Falcon 9 is partially reusable. Falcon family includes falcon v0.1, Falcon v1.1, Falcon v1.2 "Full Thrust", Falcon 9 Block 5, Falcon Heavy, and Falcon Heavy Block 5.

Falcon heavy:

This is also a reusable and heavy-lift launch vehicle. This is the world's most powerful rocket by a factor of two. It is composed of three Falcon 9 engine cores. It can create 5 million pounds of thrust from a 27 merlin engine when liftoff. The additional thrust allows it to carry heavy loads which is three times more than falcon 9 can lift. The main and closest competitor of this spacecraft can be delta IV heavy which is made by united launch Alliance Company which is an American service provider it manufactures and operates a number of vehicles. Falcon Heavy was launched on February 6, 2018. This spacecraft launched three times.

Dragon 1:

Dragon spacecraft is also known as dragon 1 and dragon crew. This is reusable cargo spacecraft. It was launched in December 2010. Later on, in the same year, it becomes the first spacecraft to successfully recover from orbit after delivering cargo to ISS. This year it also completed its second mission to ISS and it is the first form that 12 resupply to NASA. It is the first private spacecraft that was attached to the international space station ISS. It has a capacity to carry 6,000 kilograms which are about 13227.74 pounds. Later SpaceX created a second version dragon 2 which is capable of carrying humans to space.

Dragon 2:

Dragon 2 is also reusable spacecraft by SpaceX developed for the flight to the international space station. There are two variants of this: the first one is the crew dragon and the second is the cargo dragon this craft was the advanced replacement of dragon 1. As of 2021, these two spacecraft are now in operation. Dragon crew was developed to transport crews to the international space stations. The dragon crew has the ability to carry 3,307 kg (7290.687 pounds) to ISS and is capable of bringing seven astronauts to space. The first uncrewed demo of this spacecraft was in March 2019. The first crew flight of crew dragon called demo-2 was launched in May 2020. It was successful and later on in crew-1, it carry four astronauts to ISS.

Starship:

Starship is a heavy-lift launch vehicle it is reusable and it has the capacity to carry both crew and cargo to Mars. This is capable of carrying 10 humans to the red planet (Mars is called the red planet because its soil looks like rusty iron). This rocket contains heavy boosters with a starship on top of it. It is powered by 32 raptor engine. The starship is 387 feet tall and 30 feet in diameter and is significantly bigger than Saturn V which was used in Apollo 11 to carry astronauts to the moon. The plan for the launching of this rocket is in 2022.

Subsidiary:

Swarm Technologies:

This company was founded in 2016 and founded by Sara Spangelo and Benjamin Longmire. This a private company provide communication with IoT (internet of things) with the smallest operational satellites of size 11 x 11 x 2.8 cm. it covers every point on earth to make the devices operate affordably in all location. Because of their small size, it also costs less to launch.

Mission:

SpaceX makes history by developing and launching the first spacecraft into earth's orbit. This is the first company whose spacecraft returns to earth from low orbit. SpaceX's main goal is to make humanity multi-planetary by sending humans to Mars. For this purpose, SpaceX made a starship that is capable of carrying 10 humans to Mars. Elon musk hoping to build more raptor engines to enable a mars city.
